PLN: Week 15

I couldn't resist this article from good old MIT, in regards to technology in the classroom. Pros and Cons from this, in addition to assessing how to get started gives a realistic view on how to introduce it to a school system practically. The "Evolution" of technology in the classroom is not a "Revolution".

I also got turned on to FUTURELAB where they mention students as "Digital Leaders".

  1. I enjoyed the MIT article, especially the section you spoke of, technology being an evolution and not a revolution. The idea I think they are trying to set across is that technology should be incorporated to the classroom in meaningful ways. I agree with this; however, we must always remember there are always exceptions to the rule. I had a calculus teacher in high school that barely used his computer. Everything was done on the chalkboard and our tests were handwritten and photocopied. He was my favorite math teacher in high school, and I learned more from him than most of my other math teachers. On the contrary, I had a history teacher that used powerpoint all the time, with videos, pictures, etc. This was, as we like to call at Case, "death by powerpoint." Technology can enhance and help the classroom, but only if the teacher uses it effectively.
