Week 14: Reflection

The assistant Technology Video moved me so much. I appreciate seeing the student play with the SoundBeam MIDI device from his chair. It is so nice to see expression from someone who has a different way of communicating. A few decades ago that would have been called a disability. I am glad it has been changed to special needs. Technology has given this student a voice.

Assessment and Music Technology helped in the design of the WebQuest, because I started out with the material and activity no no instead of developing the lesson plan and the curriculum. The various forms of assessment makes teaching even more fun, as students can use more than just paper and pencil. This website is more than a useful tool for professional design, it's the Law.

  1. I agree, I was definitely moved by the SoundBeam video clip. Every student deserves to have the opportunity to create music, and because of technology this is finally becoming a reality. I also agree with your of developing objectives/assessment first instead of the materials and activity. I feel as if this can create a stronger lesson plan.

  2. I agree, as well. The SoundBeam video clip was really excellent. It reassured me about my path in life, and why I am studying what I am studying, and why I am putting up with the stress of school: to help students all of abilities and backgrounds experience the joy of music.

  3. Regarding lesson design, it is usually best to start with what you want students to know and be able to do once the lesson is completed and then work backwards to design the steps required to get to that point. Part of this process requires you to determine what the indicators of student understanding will be and how you will measure them (i.e., assessment).

  4. I will quadruple what everyone else has said. I found it very inspiring and moving in which that young musician was able to present music for an audience. I believe more people should see this.
